Zephyr RTOS Use Case – ProMOS Technology Secure Positioning Watch

By February 3, 2021No Comments

Wearables can be fashionable, useful and, in some cases, extremely small. The device is based on a RTOS that has built-in power management and connectivity capabilities as well as a decent memory size. The way the RTOS handles these tasks can either make or break the application.

Zephyr RTOS is the solution. In today’s blog, we’ll take a look at ProMOS Technologies, a Taiwan-based technology company, that selected Nordic Semiconductor’s nRF9160 low power System-in-Package (SiP) with integrated LTE-M/NB-IoT modem and GPS to power the position, physiological monitoring, and SOS alerts for its ‘ProGuard Secure Positioning Watch’.

According to Min-Liang Chen, Chairman and President of ProMOS Technologies, they selected Nordic’s nRF9160 due to the SiP’s level of integration, multimode capabilitym large memory capacity and wireless sensitivity. One of Nordic’s nRF9160 key features is the built-in Zephyr RTOS for multi-tasking. This same RTOS that is used for wearables must also be able to scale up to the most full-featured range of services.
