What began in 2023 as a small student meetup at IIT Mandi has now grown into something remarkable — the Opportunity Open Source Conference (OOSC) has evolved into one of the most vibrant student-led Open Source gatherings in India. After its successful debut, the 2024 and 2025 editions were hosted at IIT Kanpur, bringing together an even larger and more enthusiastic community.

It’s always inspiring to see students from across the country come together with curiosity, passion, and the desire to begin their Open Source journey. OOSC has consistently focused on showing the way helping newcomers take their very first steps and nurturing them as they grow into confident contributors.

Zephyr: A Core Part of the Journey

From the earliest days of this conference, Zephyr RTOS has been an integral part of the story. This year at OOSC 3.0, Zephyr continued to play a central role in connecting students, developers, and industry professionals through engaging sessions and hands-on workshops.

Some highlights included:

  • Oliver Völckers delivered a fascinating session on how a pump monitoring system was built for Deutsche Bahn using Zephyr, showcasing the impact of Zephyr in real-world, large-scale industrial applications.
  • Akarskshan Kapoor conducted a highly interactive workshop on running Zephyr RTOS. This hands-on session helped newcomers get started with Zephyr development directly, bridging the gap between theory and practice.

The Zephyr development board giveaway was an instant hit — every single board found a home, ensuring that the learning continues beyond the conference.

Building Community, Together

The true strength of OOSC lies in its community. The knowledge-sharing, collaboration, and curiosity on display at IIT Kanpur were a testament to what Open Source is all about.

🙏 We are deeply grateful to:

  • Our speakers, for generously sharing their expertise.
  • The enthusiastic participants, many of whom traveled from across India to be part of this journey.
  • The organizers at Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur, for their incredible efforts in making OOSC 3.0 a success.

Looking Ahead

Zephyr has always believed in the power of community-driven growth. Conferences like OOSC embody that spirit empowering the next generation of developers to innovate, contribute, and collaborate.

Here’s to more opportunities for learning, building, and growing together with Zephyr at the heart of it all.
