Zephyr Developer Summit 2023

By July 20, 2023No Comments

The Zephyr Developer Summit, hosted under the first-ever Embedded Open Source Summit in Prague, Czech Republic, on June 27-30 included presentations, BoFs, and training designed for real time problem solving and deep discussions. More than 1,300 people registered for the conference – representing 375 organizations across 56 countries around the globe. Zephyr had 75+ technical sessions (in-person and on-demand) for 3 tracks focused on users of Zephyr, developers contributing upstream, and maintainer-specific topics.

A few of the popular sessions included: 9 Years in the Making, the Story of Zephyr, Starting with Commit Nr. 1Building an Open Source Smartwatch Using Zephyrbrewce: Brewing Beer with Zephyr, Android and Thingsboard; and a Meet the Maintainers BOF that allowed the community to provide feedback, ask questions and learn more about how to become a maintainer.

Videos from the event are now available here. The schedule and links to the PPT presentations can be found here. Photos from the EOSS can be found here.

Other highlights included:

The Women & Non-Binary in Embedded Lunch at Embedded Open Source Summit was an incredible way to kick off the conference. The absence of formal presentations and talks allowed attendees to connect personally and engage in meaningful conversations. The room was filled with excitement as people from diverse backgrounds and areas of expertise came together to support and inspire each other. Discussions covered a range of subjects such as professional growth, navigating work environments, allyship, and advocating for inclusivity.

The sponsor showcase where Zephyr was also well-represented as several project and community members featured the RTOS at their booths with demos including: Analog Devices, Antmicro, AVSystem, Blues, Golioth, Memfault, Nordic Semiconductor, NXP, Seeed Studio and Sternum.

Zephyr also had a booth and gave away stickers, magnets and branded kites, which became a hot, sought-out item with attendees.

Several attendees went out and flew their kites during the breaks or received a quick lesson on how to do it from Maemalynn Meanor, Director of PR and Communications at the Linux Foundation as shown below.

In fact, here’s a video of Mateusz Kwiatkowski, Software Engineer at AVSystem, flying a kite for the first time.

Thank you to all of the Embedded Open Source Summit sponsors for helping to make this event happen, especially Zephyr Project members: Diamond Sponsors Antmicro, Google, Intel and Meta; Gold Sponsors Blues and NXP; Silver Sponsors Analog Devices and Nordic Semiconductor; and Bronze Sponsors AVSystem, Golioth, Memfault and Sternum.

Launched in 2021, Zephyr Developer Summit is for developers using or considering Zephyr in embedded products.
